Mr. Austin Tillison
Austin Tillison graduated from JSU with a Communication degree (Broadcast focus) and a minor in Film in 2018. In 2022, Tillison graduated from JSU again, this time with a master’s degree in Business Administration.
Tillison transferred into JSU in the spring of 2016 after receiving an Associate’s Degree from Gadsden State Community College. After following a pre-engineering path at Gadsden State, Tillison decided he wanted to shift his studies towards Communication. While completing his undergraduate degree, he began freelancing as a camera operator in Birmingham at a large production studio. Here, he gained invaluable professional experience working with major clients, brands and industry professionals and was reassured that he had chosen the right career path.
While freelancing in Birmingham and completing his Communication degree, he also began working part-time with the JSU Marketing and Communications team in the summer of 2017. He began as a student videographer, then joined the team full-time in late 2018 as a Multimedia Content Specialist. He was awarded the Division of Advancement and Enrollment Management Employee of the Semester in Fall of 2021. Tillison recently got promoted to Digital Media Producer.
Tillison started off shooting and editing YouTube and social media video content for the university. The team was able to grow the video production capabilities of the content team significantly and eventually merged with Television Services and established Digital Media Services. Tillison is also responsible for university photography. Tillison recently presented at the HigherEd Web Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas alongside
his assistant director. Their topic was “How to Build and In-House Production Team – Streamline Content for your Organization”. Outside of JSU, he owns and operate a media production company called Super Productions that serves clients across the Southeast with a variety of digital production services.
