Good Samaritan Amnesty Policy
A bystander or a reporting individual acting in good faith that discloses any incident of violence, including hazing, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual assault, to university officials or law enforcement may not be subject to the Code of Student Conduct for violations of alcohol and/or drug use policies occurring at or near the time of the incident in question.
The policy does not protect repeated, flagrant, or serious violations of the Code of Student Conduct or other university policies (including physical or sexual assault, violence, hazing, harassment, theft, or vandalism or instances where multiple individuals need medical attention), nor does it preclude or prevent action by police or other legal authorities.
Self-Reporting of Individual Misconduct and Amnesty
Student Group/Organization leadership is encouraged to immediately report any violations committed by members of their Student Group/Organization of the Code of Student Organization Conduct or other University policies to the Office of Community Standards. This report should provide a detailed description of the events that transpired, the names of all individuals involved, and a description of any internal disciplinary actions taken by the Student Group/Organization. If Student Group/Organization chooses to self-report behavior in this manner, the Office of Community Standards or designee will only investigate the individual(s) implicated in the report. Unless information discovered during the investigation suggests that the incident was aided, abetted, sanctioned, or organized by the Student Group/Organization, the investigation will be limited to the individuals implicated in the self-report, rather than the Student
Group/Organization. However, if information is uncovered during the investigation that suggests the Student Group/Organization aided, abetted, sanctioned, or organized the event, the Office of Community Standards or its designee may launch a formal investigation of the Student Group/Organization.
Students who make a complaint under this policy or who participate in an investigation related to this policy will not be charged with other minor University policy violations that are brought to light in the course of the investigation that arose out of, or were committed as a direct result of, the incident(s) under investigation (i.e. students forced to consume alcohol as part of a hazing incident will not be charged with violations of the University’s alcohol policy) as long as those behaviors do not represent a threat to the health, safety or well-being of others. The University reserves the right to follow up with students related to those issues as appropriate in a non-disciplinary setting.
Amnesty may not be given to a student for serious/severe violations like violence, sexual assault, or repeated misconduct. Amnesty is made on a case-by-case basis by a University Official who will consider the specific circumstances of the situation.
The student must cooperate with the University Official(s) during the entire conduct process.

What is an Academic Grievance?
An "academic grievance" is a claim by an enrolled student receiving academic credit for a course that a specific academic decision or action has violated published policies and procedures, or has been applied to the grievant in a manner different from that used for other students.
Students wishing to appeal a grade or reverse an academic decision should always begin by meeting with the instructor who initiated the grade or decision. Often, this meeting will result in a satisfactory outcome for both the student and the instructor. If the student and instructor are unable to resolve the issue, the student should meet with the instructor's department head. If the issue remains unresolved, students should follow the academic grievance process.
Use the Academic Grievance Report form to file an academic grievance. For more information, please visit the Academic Grievances website.
To ensure academic honesty and provide support for students who may have engaged in minor violations, the university proposes the Scholars’ Code as a means by which course instructors can work with students in an educational and restorative manner while also maintaining the academic integrity of the university.
Use the Academic Integrity Reporting form to report all potential academic honor code violations that have occurred in the classroom.
