Free Practice LSAT administered at JSU - As part of a pilot program that began in spring 2015, JSU began administering a free LSAT several times a semester to our current undergraduate and graduate students, and our alumni. The test is an actual LSAT that was administered by the LSAC and is given in a real time situation on Friday afternoons. There is no charge to take the test but pre-registration is required. Pre-registration will open approximately two weeks prior to the practice test date.

Meetings with law school officials and practitioners in the field of law - Meetings with law school admission officials and practitioners in the field (judges, district attorneys, defense attorneys, financial advisors, etc.) are hosted by the Pre-Law Society and the office of Undergraduate Studies and Special Programs. Announcement of these events will be posted to the Pre-Law website Announcement section and will also be sent via email. Please make sure you submit your contact information to our Listserv so that you will be notified of these events.

Internships - A variety of internships are available and highly encouraged for those considering law school. It is also a good way to determine if you really want to be a lawyer. Several departments offer internships for credit. Students who have earned 15 hours in their major and who have reached junior or senior status are advised to complete an internship in the summer, fall, or spring term. Internships are available in the following areas: the office of the Calhoun/Cleburne County District Attorney, District and Circuit Judges for Calhoun/Cleburne Counties, legal firms in northeast Alabama, financial planning offices, Congressman Mike Rogers' Third Congressional District and Washington, D.C. offices, The Washington Center Internship Program, and The National Council on US-Arab Relations. Students who are not from this area and who wish to intern in an office in their home county are advised to speak with Dr. Lori Owens to arrange this. All Internship slots are limited so students should speak with her at least two semesters in advance of their desired internship. Students wishing to complete an internship should maintain an overall GPA of 3.00 and be taking the free, practice LSAT each semester while pursuing their degree at JSU.
