BSW
Internship Seminar (SW 449) and Internship (SW 450)
- During the semester before the Internship Semester (your last semester)submit an Application for Internship Placement
- Eligible Students are notified of a mandatory initial informational meeting about Internship Placement which is held during the semester before the Internship Placement experience.
- Students are given an Application for Degree and information regarding the following: Graduating Senior Survey (GSS) which is completed online through the JSU Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, the BSW Assessment and Exit Interview Surveys, University EPP Exam, and graduation.
- Students complete and return all required forms for Intenrship Placement and degree to the Internship Coordinator.
- Students schedule an individual meeting with Internship Coordinator.
- As part of this assessment, students must disclose all relevant ethical violations or legal convictions before the pre-placement process can begin.
- Formal planning for Internship Placement proceeds with students having no identified deficiencies.
MSW
Traditional Full-Time Program (5950)
Internship in the two-year full-time curricula consists of two block internship courses (each averaging 32 hours per week), one in the foundation year, and one in the advanced, or specialization, year, which all students take in the final semester they are enrolled in the program. Both foundation and advanced internships require 450 hours of internship placement. Students must complete the CSWE required minimum total of 900 hours in internship placement.
Advanced Standing Program (5951)
The Advanced Internship in the specialization year consists of one block internship course. Students are required to complete 450 hours (an average of 32 hours per week) and attend a biweekly seminar. Students must complete the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) required minimum total of 900 hours of field instruction prior to obtaining an MSW degree. The Internship Coordinator will require documentation of BSW field hours. Students may be required to complete additional hours to meet this standard.
Prior to the semester of anticipated Internship Placement, students must attend an informational meeting where they will receive an application for Internship Instruction. The student will complete the application and return it to the Internship Coordinator. Following the informational meeting, students must meet individually with the Internship Coordinator
