Pam Smith retired from teaching June 2011 after serving as Director of Bands at Pleasant Valley High School for twenty-eight years. During her career, her bands consistently earned superior ratings at the Alabama Bandmasters Association District and State Concert Band Assessments, as well as numerous superior ratings at marching festivals throughout the Southeast. Students under Ms. Smith’s direction have been selected to countless ABA sponsored events and numerous honor bands throughout the state.Among her honors, Ms. Smith was the 2009 Middle School Teacher of the Year for Pleasant Valley High School and the Calhoun County Board of Education as well as a top five finalist for the 2009 JSU Teacher Hall of Fame Middle School Division.Ms. Smith’s professional affiliations include, the National Association for Music Education, Alabama Music Educators Association and the Alabama Bandmasters Association. Ms. Smith is a former chairman of ABA District II and has served as President and Treasurer of the Calhoun County Band Association.Ms. Smith has been an adjunct Supervisor of Music Interns and Practicum students for Jacksonville State University since August 2011 and is currently teaching Intro to Music at JSU. Additionally, Ms. Smith served as an adjunct Music Instructor at Gadsden State Community College 2014-2020.Ms. Smith continues to served as an adjudicator, consultant and clinician for marching and concert bands programs in the Southeast.
