Transfer Merit-Based Scholarships (GPA-Based)*

Transfer students will be considered automatically for transfer scholarships upon admission to JSU. Out-of-state students receiving a transfer scholarship will qualify to pay their remaining tuition balance at the in-state rate. . 

  • Academic merit scholarships are awarded based on students' highest cumulative JSU-calculated transfer GPA.
  • All Transfer Merit Scholarships allow students transferring from any accredited community college OR 4-year university to qualify.

Presidential Transfer Leadership Scholarship

Beginning in Fall 2025, Jacksonville State University is proud to announce our Presidential Transfer Leadership Scholarship available to one (1) student at each of our ACCS partner institutions. This is a competitive, full-tuition scholarship available to an outstanding student nominated by your college's administration. We are excited to add this scholarship to our expansive list of transfer scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year!

The requirements of Jax State's Presidential Transfer Leadership Scholarship are as follows:

  1. 3.5 transfer GPA (calculated by Jax State)
  2. 45+ transferable hours earned at an ACCS institution (calculated by Jax State)
  3. Be classified at Jax State as a First-Time Transfer student for admission and scholarship purposes. This means that a student cannot have previously attended Jax State as a degree-seeking student. Students who previously enrolled at Jax State only as a dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment (Transfer Prep), or non-degree/transient student may be considered.
  4. Be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the community college and at Jax State, if such history exists.
  5. Have demonstrated ability to balance academic achievement with at least one of the following areas: campus involvement, community involvement/volunteerism, family responsibilities, scholarly achievements, or work/professional responsibilities.
  6. Commitment to serve as a Transfer Student Mentor (TSM) during the first year at Jacksonville State. Transfer Student Mentors will serve as a recruitment and enrollment resource to prospective transfer students from their former community college upon their enrollment at Jax State. In the second year, recipients may either continue as a TSM or choose another campus group to continue their involvement.

STEP Transfer Scholarship

2024-2025 Step Transfer Scholarship (STEP Majors are eligible to receive this scholarship only)

  • Beginning with the Fall 2024 semester, STEP Majors will receive a prorated amount of the Transfer Merit scholarship they are awarded once admitted to JSU. This scholarship cannot be stacked with any other discounts and will be prorated as follows based on enrollment:
    • 12+ hours = 100%
    • 9-11 hours = 75%
    • 6-8 hours = 50%
    • 1-5 hours = 25%

Additional Details

  • Transfer Merit Scholarships do not require an application. They are automatically awarded to students who qualify and have been admitted by the appropriate deadline!
  • All Transfer Merit Scholarships allow students transferring from any accredited community college OR4-year university to qualify.
  • The Phi Theta Kappa Enhancement Scholarship requires students to submit proof of their membership in JSU's Scholarship Manager system. This documentation is required to be submitted by July 1st and is awarded based the availability of funds.
  • Students must maintain a 2.0 institutional GPA and earn 12 credit hours each semester at JSU to maintain all transfer merit scholarships excluding the STEP Scholarship, which only requires a 2.0 Institutional GPA. To maintain the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, you must earn a 3.0 institutional GPA.
  • Students who do not meet the 45 transfer credit hour requirement for any of the transfer scholarships will still be eligible if they have completed an Associates Degree.
  • The Presidential, Academic, Opportunity, Gamecock Transfer Scholarships will be automatically awarded through the beginning of the term to admitted students who qualify.
  • Transfer scholarships cannot stack on one another, excluding the PTK Enhancement Scholarship.

Other Forms of Financial Aid

83% of JSU students are on some form of financial aid. To determine your eligibility, you'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online for the aid year you will be attending. Once you have completed the FAFSA and have supplied the required documents to JSU's Financial Aid Office, you will receive official information regarding any awards for which you may qualify.

Transfer students may also apply for additional competitive scholarships including foundation, theatre and film, and music and performance scholarships. To apply, students will need to complete application(s) through JSU's Scholarship Manager.
