Transition to Jax Transit – FAQ

Jax Transit is Jax State's new campus transportation system. Beginning this fall, Jax Transit will become Jax State's primary daytime campus transportation service, providing scheduled bus service on fixed routes connecting residence halls, academic buildings, parking areas, and other key campus destinations.

Over the past several years, demand for campus transportation has continued to grow. While jsuRIDE has served students well, the increasing number of riders has made a fixed-route system the best way to provide reliable transportation during the busiest parts of the day.

Jax Transit is designed to:

  • Provide more consistent and predictable transportation service
  • Improve efficiency and coverage across campus
  • Ensure reliable access during peak student demand times
  • Better support the growing number of students using transit services

A scheduled route system allows buses to carry more students during busy periods while providing consistent arrival times. Instead of requesting individual rides, students can plan around published schedules, making transportation more predictable across campus.

Yes. Jax Transit remains a free service for currently enrolled Jax State students, faculty, and staff.

Jax Transit is available exclusively to currently enrolled Jax State students, faculty, and staff. The service is not open to the general public.

If you're visiting campus and need assistance with directions or parking, please contact the appropriate campus office before your visit.

Jax Transit connects residence halls, academic buildings, student service locations, commuter parking, and other key campus destinations through three color-coded routes:

Bus stop locations and operating schedules will be shared before the system launches.

jsuRIDE Jax Transit
On-demand rides Fixed routes and stops
Request-based pickup Scheduled service
Variable wait times Predictable arrival times
Individual rides Shared, continuous routes

As Jax Transit is introduced, there will be a transition period during which both Jax Transit and jsuRIDE will operate.

After the transition period, scheduled daytime service will be provided through Jax Transit. Additional transportation options available during evenings and other designated hours will be communicated before implementation.

Jax Transit will begin on the first day of the Fall 2026 semester.

Jax Transit buses will operate on published schedules throughout the day. These schedules are available on the Jax Transit website.

Route maps are available now on the Jax State Transportation website and have been shared through email. You can also download the Jax Transit app to learn more about:

  • Bus stop locations
  • Operating hours
  • Estimated travel times
  • Route guides to common campus destinations

Students are encouraged to:

  • Allow a little extra travel time
  • Review route information before leaving
  • Ask Transportation staff for assistance if needed

Additional staff will be available to help students during launch.
