London: Place, Space and Power

Over two weeks in the heart of one of the world’s great metropolises, students will explore how cities come to look the way they do and what their buildings and public spaces can tell us about power. This immersive course will examine London’s built environment, from iconic sites such as the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace to public spaces including Trafalgar Square, Green Park, and Hyde Park. Students will discover how London developed from its origins as a Roman garrison town into an imperial capital and, ultimately, a modern global city. Along the way, we’ll consider how architecture and urban spaces have been used to impress, intimidate, unite, and shape the people who experience them, while exploring how these historic spaces continue to evolve and be used today.
