Whether you're a trailblazing beginner or a seasoned hiker, our expert guides are here to teach you the skills, secrets, and techniques of the great outdoors. From gear essentials to wilderness navigation, join us for a series of exciting, hands-on sessions and unleash your inner explorer. Let's make every step count in the wilderness together! Register and attend all three clinics to receive a $20 discount from our spring break Appalachian Trail trip!

Backpacking clinics will run 5 pm - 6 pm.

Catholes and Purifying Water March 1 $5 Water is one of the most important considerations on a backpacking trip. Join the Adventure Recreation Center and our skilled instructors and learn all of the hydration best practices. From filters to chemical treatments, discover the secrets to staying hydrated in the great outdoors. But all that water has to go somewhere. We’ll also be teaching the best practices for using the bathroom in the backcountry and preserving the area for others and staying hygienic.
How to Pack a Backpack March 7 $5 Packing a backpack effectively and knowing what to bring is essential for comfort and convenience while hiking. Bringing too much or not bringing essential pieces of gear can make an easy and fun trip and turn it into a sufferfest. Join the Adventure Recreation Center and our skilled instructors to learn the essentials to bring, how to carry everything efficiently, and what “necessary” items may not be needed for your trip.
Backcountry Cooking March 13 $10 Food is a crucial aspect of a successful backpacking trip, as it provides the energy and fuel you need to enjoy your outdoor adventure. Join the Adventure Recreation Center and our skilled instructors to learn how to plan your own meals and how to cook safely and effectively in the backcountry. Our trip leaders will also be cooking their favorite meals for you to enjoy.

 

Biking Clinics

Join Adventure Rec as we dive into many different techniques of bicycle riding and maintenance. Whether you're a novice or experienced and looking to refine your skills, our expert instructors are here to guide you through every pedal stroke. Join us for a fun, no cost, confidence-building experiences and discover the joy of biking. Join us after the clinic on a community bike ride too!

Biking clinics run 5-5:30 pm with our community bike rides starting right after.

Learn to Ride Clinic March 28 Free! Are you new to riding a bike? Do you want to learn how to ride? Join us as our bike instructors discuss the biking opportunities on campus and if you haven’t had the opportunity to learn how to ride, now is your chance.
Fix a Flat April 4 Free! Parts wear out all the time. Learn how to save money by replacing bike tubes, install new tires, and replace brake pads without needing to pay expensive shop fees. The Adventure Recreation Center has all the tools available to help students maintain their bikes.
General Bike Maintenance April 11 Free! Parts wear out all the time. Learn how to save money by replacing bike chains and adjusting derailleurs without needing to pay expensive shop fees. The Adventure Recreation Center has all the tools available to help students maintain their bikes.

 

Climbing Clinics

Climb to new heights with our Climbing Clinic Series! Whether you're a climbing novice or a seasoned crusher, we have clinics for all experience levels. The Adventure Recreation Center and our certified instructors are here to show you the ropes and teach you the techniques you need to expand your skills.

All climbing clinics will run 6-8 pm

Gym to Crag March 25 Free! Ready to take your climbing skills from the gym to the great outdoors? Join the Adventure Recreation Center and our skilled instructors for our “Gym to Crag” clinic to learn the essentials of outdoor climbing safety, from how to spot climbers to learning about local climbing area ethics and how to practice Leave No Trace while climbing.
Anchor Building April 1 $5 Solid anchors are the foundation of safe and successful climbing. Join the Adventure Recreation Centerand our skilled instructors for an Anchor Building Clinic and master the art of constructing robust and reliable anchors. In this hands-on course, you'll learn essential techniques, knots, and equipment choices to create anchors that can be trusted in any climbing scenario. You’ll also learn about common hardware you may see at the crag.
Rappelling and Cleaning April 16 $5 Cleaning a sport climbing route is an important aspect of climbing outdoors. Join the Adventure Recreation Center and our skilled instructors to learn how to safely and effectively clean a route, how to be lowered safely, and how to set up a safe and backed up rappel.
