New President Expected to be Named on May 8

After a nationwide search that yielded numerous applications and resulted in three outstanding final candidates, the Jacksonville State University Board of Trustees hopes to name the university's 12th president during a special meeting on May 8 at 11 a.m. on the 11th floor of the Houston Cole Library.
 
JSU Student Receives Prestigious Dietetics Award

Among the second largest graduating class in Jacksonville State University history on Friday evening was Belinda Heath, a top graduate of the university’s dietetics program. She was recently recognized with the prestigious Alabama Dietetic Association (ALDA) Honors.
 
Take the Poverty Challenge- Community Action Poverty Simulation at HCL on May 6

Alabama is the seventh poorest state in the nation, and 900,000 Alabamians—including 300,000 of our children—live below the federal poverty line. Poverty is not a game. It’s a reality for people in our own backyard. On Wednesday, May 6, the public is invited to learn what it’s like to live in poverty through participation in the Poverty Challenge: Community Action Poverty Simulation.
 
Heil Environmental Named as the Recipient of the Inaugural JSU EPIC Award

On May 1, 2015, Pete Conroy, Director, JSU EPIC, Field Schools and Little River Canyon Center, announced Heil Environmental as the recipient of the first EPIC Award. Heil was recognized for their excellence in sustainability and environmentally friendly manufacturing.
 
724 Receive Degrees at JSU Spring Commencement on May 1

Seven hundred twenty-four candidates received degrees from Jacksonville State University on May 1, making up the second largest graduating class in the university’s history.

JSU Biology Department Mentors Munford High School Students

Beginning in 2012, several biology professors partnered with teachers and students at Munford High School to give students a new and exciting outlook on science. As if the experience itself wasn’t enough to keep students keen on discovering the wild and sometimes microscopic world around them, students were also invited to participate in this year’s Undergraduate Research Symposium at JSU, and many have competed at the Alabama Junior Academy of Science Symposium.
 
JSU Librarian Honored Nationally for Kindness

Jacksonville State University is proud to announce that one of its own librarians, Charlcie Pettway Vann, has been named the winner of the 2015 National Library Week’s Librarians Creating Communities of Kindness contest. She was selected based on an outpouring of praise from nominations made on her behalf.

Work Meets Play: JSU Students Spend Summer at Sea Lab

Imagine living on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico – studying the biology of dolphins, assisting in sea turtle conservation and exploring the plant life of marshes and dunes – led by some of state’s brightest marine biologists. This summer, JSU students are doing just that at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
 
Hammond Hall Closed This Summer For HVAC Replacement

Due to HVAC replacement, Hammond Hall will be closed this summer. Some art department personnel have been relocated to Anders Round House for the duration of the project.
 
Former U.S. Congressman and JSU Emeritus Professor Glen Browder Received Fulbright Specialists Award

Dr. Glen Browder, former U.S. Congressman and Emeritus Professor of American Democracy at Jacksonville State University, was selected for a Fulbright Specialists project in Greece at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki during late April and early May 2015.

Newly Revised Title IX Policy and Procedures

Jacksonville State University has an obligation to periodically review its policies and procedures to ensure that it fully complies with and implements the provisions of Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The University has recently completed such a comprehensive review and revision of its Gender-Based Discrimination and Sexual Violence Policy and Procedures.

JSU Announces President's, Deans' Lists for Spring 2015

Jacksonville State University announces the following students were added to the President's and Deans' Lists for Spring 2015. To be named to the President's List, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average, or all As. Students earning all As and Bs (GPA of 3.5-3.99) are named to the Deans' List.
 
Jazz Ensemble Wins Downbeat Award

JSU Jazz Ensemble I is featured in this month’s edition of the international magazine, "Downbeat," as the winners of the Downbeat Magazine Award. The award is essentially the college or university equivalent of winning a Grammy.
 
Flutist Olivia Brown Wins National Honor

Olivia Brown, who just graduated from JSU in May, is already making a name for herself in the world of music. She won first place in the Orchestral Winds Division of the Federation of Music Clubs Collegiate Solo Competition.
 
JSU Selects John M. Beehler as 12th President

John M. Beehler was named the 12th president of Jacksonville State University today during a special session of the Board of Trustees held on campus at Houston Cole Library. He assumes the helm on July 1.
