Prior Learning Assessment by Portfolio

Students may receive up to 15 credit hours of prior learning from portfolio assessment of knowledge and skills acquired outside the traditional academic environment. The portfolio process accessible through INS 300 provides an opportunity for students to prove that their experiential learning is equivalent to Jacksonville State University coursework. Portfolios are reviewed by faculty with expertise in the discipline of the equivalent course. To request such review during or after INS 300, students initiate a Portfolio Request Form for each course to be reviewed (add link here). Processing fees for each course need to be paid prior to the portfolio review by faculty. The reviewing faculty will complete the Portfolio Credit Completion form if credit is deemed equivalent for each possible course. Credit awarded via the Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio matches experiential learning to specific Jacksonville State University courses. Approved courses will be recorded on the transcript as transfer work with a grade of P.
