International Endowment Foundation
The board members of the International Endowment Foundation, a nonprofit organization, work relentlessly to support the mission of the Jones International House Program at Jacksonville State University. The program's mission to promote global understanding and peace among nation seems like a big idea but as Mrs. Myra H. Jones mentioned in her letter to President Houston Cole in 1964, “Our faith in these students depends not so much upon what they are, but upon what they can become and what we would like to believe they will become. We have tried to hold fast to our faith in the possibility of building a better world with a little more of good will. It is doubtful that any of us have any real comprehension of the power inherent in simple human kindness. The creation of peace among nations is a large idea carried out by small acts of human kindness.”
The International Endowment Foundation’s commitment to our purpose since 1953 has positively impacted many students' lives. Because of the support of many of our community leaders who served on this foundation, the Jones International House Program has been able to positively impact many students' lives in our region by helping them have a broader worldview and by helping them nurture kindness and respect for differences.
The International Endowment Foundation was organized and incorporated on February 4, 1953 for the purpose of seeking voluntary private support from alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, and others for the purpose of supporting and sustaining the Dr. James H. & Myra Hume Jones International House Program at JSU.
The Foundation exists to raise and manage private resources that will support the mission and priorities of the Dr. James H. & Myra Hume Jones International House Program at JSU, and that will provide opportunities for students (both foreign and U.S.) to achieve excellence in education and leadership skills unavailable with state funds alone.
As stated in its Articles of Incorporation, the Foundation is a separately incorporated 501 (C)(3) organization and is responsible for identifying and nurturing relationships with potential donors and other friends of the International House Program.
More specifically, the purposes of the IEF are to:
- provide opportunities to students from around the globe to obtain understanding of the American way of life.
- promote international understanding through the knowledge and appreciation of various cultures and customs.
- provide educational opportunities to young people for intellectual and professional leadership, as well as statesmanship. The primary purpose of the International Endowment Foundation is to seek, find, and bring to the Jones International House Program of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama from throughout the United States and other countries young potential leaders of exceptional ability, who possess the qualities of leadership the world so urgently needs, and to train and prepare these young people for this leadership.
- provide social and intellectual contacts between these students and other students of the University, and as many people as possible, so that they may better understand each other.
- permit and encourage the students sponsored by the International Endowment Foundation to select, prepare for, and engage in the business or profession of their choice, and to instill in them a burning desire and lasting determination to use their abilities for the good of their country and people for the promotion of world brotherhood and peace.
- to seek to solidly unite the citizens of Jacksonville and surrounding communities, and the state of Alabama at large, in actively and cooperatively supporting the efforts of the International Endowment Foundation whose efforts on the part of these citizens would be as wholesome for them and their respective communities as for the International Endowment Foundation itself.

Endowed Fund:
Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs International House Scholarship: Established by the Alabama Federation Women's Clubs for the benefit of a deserving female international student who is a member of JSU's International House Program.
Anniston Rotary International House Scholarship: Established by the Anniston Rotary Club for the benefit of deserving international students who are members of JSU's International House Program.
C.M Jesperson Memorial: Established in memory of long-time friend and supporter of the International House Program, Mr. C.M Jesperson of Anniston, Alabama, for the benefit of the International House Program.
Daugette Memorial Scholarship: Established in memory of Colonel Clarence W. Daugette, Jr., a former member and Chairman of the Jacksonville State University Board of Trustees, for the benefit of deserving international students who are members of JSU's International House Program.
Ingram Memorial Scholarship: Established by the family of Mr. Stanton B. Ingram for the benefit of deserving international students who are members of JSU's International House Program.
Jones (James H. and Myra Hume) Memorial Scholarship: Established in memory of Dr. James H. Jones and Myra Hume Jones by former members of the International House Program, friends, associates, and children of Dr. and Mrs. Jones, for the benefit of deserving students who are members of JSU's International House Program.
Spain-Hickman-Estess-Maloney Scholarship: Established by Rotary International District #6860 in honor of Mr. Frank E. Spain and Mr. Roy Hickman and Mr. Glenn Elton Estess, Sr. former presidents of Rotary International, for the benefit of deserving international students who are members of JSU's International House Program.
Stewart Scholarship: Established in honor of Dr. John R. Stewart, former Director of the JSU International House Program, by his former students and friends for the benefit of deserving international students who are members of JSU's International House Program.
Other Annual Funding:
GFWC du Midi Women's Club International House Scholarship: Established by GFWC du Midi Women's Club for the benefit of a deserving female international student who is a member of JSU's International House Program. GFWC du Midi is the largest GFWC Women's Club in Alabama and is also affiliated with AFWC.
Alpha Delta Kappa- International House Scholarship: Established by Alpha Delta Kappa for the benefit of a deserving international student who is a member of JSU's International House Program. Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding.
