The Illustration Concentration at JSU offers experiences for students in pursuit of a commercial and fine art career.The BFA with a concentration in Illustration prepares students to achieve their aspiration of image-making, through drawing, as their primary means of self-expression and as a path to a fulfilling livelihood whether our student’s goals include continuation of study in a graduate program, commercial illustration work, or a fine art studio practice.Classes in traditional and digital illustration assist student in developing the attitudes and skills required for meaningful work in the illustration industry and complement a focus in Graphic Design.With an approach that draws upon expertise across the Department of Art and Design, illustration Concentration Art Majors are encouraged to build a broad skillset that includes graphic design, painting, printmaking, and photography, in addition to drawing.
