Circle K International Hosts Raffle to Benefit Literacy

CKI is now selling raffle tickets to benefit "Reading is Fundamental." The drawing will take place on March 18 and a 32 in. television will be given away. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. All proceeds will go to RIF.

JSU Alum, Nurse Preston Crider Joins Army Reserves

A Birmingham operating room nurse and JSU alum is lending his much-needed skills to the military. Preston Crider, who works full-time at Trinity Medical Center, took the oath of office Tuesday and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve.

The steel band concert scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 at Mason Hall Performance Center has been rescheduled. The concert will now be held in conjunction with the JSU Percussion and Mallet Ensembles in Concert, which will be on Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jacksonville State softball team will host Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State this evening at 6 p.m. at University Field. JaXSpots participants, a 'gold' parking pass will be given away during the game. All you have to do is check-in at the tablet when you arrive at the game and you'll be entered in the drawing! JSU to Host Portion of John Pelham Commemorative Celebration

During the weekend of March 16-17, the City of Jacksonville will hold a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the death of Major John Pelham, CSA, dubbed The Gallant Pelham by General Robert E. Lee. The field in front of Kennamer Hall on the JSU Campus will be one of four encampment sites throughout the city where reenactors dressed in period clothing will pitch their tents for the weekend and share with the city what it was like to live during the Civil War era.
 
JSU Field Schools Host Environmental Education Association of Alabama Conference at Little River Canyon Center

Over two hundred Alabama and Georgia teachers gathered at Jacksonville State University’s Little River Canyon Center for the 24th Annual EEAA Conference. The event began on Thursday night, March 7 with Dr. Thomas Bice, Superintendent of Alabama Department of Education, speaking about changes in the state’s education system. The conference ended Saturday, March 9 after three days of educational sessions and field trips.

The JSU Student Government announces the Spring General Election, which will be held via online ballot on March 21. Students can hear the candidates for SGA President, Vice President of Student Senate (VPSS), Vice President of Organizational Affairs (VPOA) and Vice President of Student Activities (VPSA) in a public debate on March 18.

New York Philharmonic's Alan Baer to Perform in Concert with JSU Chamber Winds on March 21

The Chamber Winds will host special guest artist Alan Baer, an American tubist who is principal tuba for the New York Philharmonic, during a March 21 concert at JSU. He will perform the James Woodward Tuba Concerto for Tuba and Wind Band with the JSU Chamber Winds. Dr. James Woodward is a JSU music professor of theory and composition.
