JSU faculty members can propose, develop, and lead a study abroad program for JSU students. There are currently three approaches that faculty members can use to develop the study abroad program:
Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program:
Interested JSU faculty members select the destination and plan the trip duration, course credits, logistics, and on-site risk management on their own. This approach is suitable for experienced program leaders who have connections in the host country and knowledge to manage the logistical arrangements of the program. The program developed using this approach tends to be the most economical and affordable for students. However, it takes a considerable amount of preparation and time on the faculty member's end.
Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program with CCSA:
JSU is an affiliate member of the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA). CCSA offers 2-week and 4-week programs (during winter and summer breaks) in English-speaking nations, such as Australia, Belize, England, Ghana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, and Scotland. JSU faculty members can focus on their courses, teachings, and their student’s needs while CCSA handles the logistical arrangements of the program and on-site risk management.
Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program with Third Party Provider:
JSU faculty members can select reputable third-party study abroad providers to assist them with the logistical arrangements of the program and on-site risk management. Any new providers need to be vetted by JSU’s legal counsel. This approach will help JSU faculty members focus on their courses, teachings, and their student’s needs while abroad.
Vetted providers include EF Tours and Maximo Nivel. Other providers may be evaluated.
