Success Coaching for Transfer and Adult Student
Success Coaching is a personalized support service designed to help students thrive at Jax State. Whether you're returning to school after time away, balancing coursework with work and family, or adjusting to a new campus, our team is here to guide you.
Through one-on-one sessions, you'll get help setting goals, managing your time, staying motivated, self-advocacy, study skills, and connecting with the right resources on campus. Our goal is to support your journey—academically, personally, and professionally—so you can make the most of your college experience.
Students who are placed on academic warning or probation will be assigned to a learning specialist. Students who are identified as needing additional support in more challenging courses will also be referred to a learning specialist for additional support.
Who is my Success Coach or Learning Specialist?
You can find the name of your success coach in your MyJaxState Student Profile and on your Navigate Profile. Our learning specialist and success coaches are located on the sixth floor of the Houston Cole Library.
What to Expect
Our Success Coaches/Learning Specialist start with an initial interview to get to know you! Together we evaluate your goals for the semester and set up a plan to reach them. You will also be given a short assessment, Life 101, that assesses the effects of attitudes, motivations, and beliefs upon long-range success. Throughout the semester we will help you work through any issues you encounter and target areas of need. Each session with your success coach is tailored to you!
Preparing for Your First Appointment
As you prepare for your first appointment, you may want to write down any questions or concerns you have. Consider any short-term or long-term goals you have for your time at Jax State. Be sure to bring your planner and computer!
