Spring 2023 Course Design Workbook Workshops
Online@JSU has developed a new, university-wide online course/program certification process/program. Beginning this Spring 2023, the course design & development workbook will assist faculty in developing their online courses for successful review and certification. This series of workshops/presentations will introduce faculty to concepts within the faculty workbook. By registering, faculty will also receive the current version of the faculty workbook. You may sign up for one presentation/workshop, or many, or all of them.
All workshops in this series are presented virtually in Microsoft Teams.

Course Learning Outcomes & Module Learning Objectives: What’s the difference anyway?
(Part 1 in a 5-Part Series)
Presenter: Dr. Teresa Gardner, Professor, Curriculum & Instruction, Education & Professional Studies
When: Monday, March 13, 2023, from 10:30 am to Noon

Abstract: In this online workshop, the relationship between course learning outcomes and module learning objectives will be discussed. Faculty will also practice writing course learning outcomes and module learning objectives. We will review the course design workbook (Part 1).
Takeaway: Faculty will leave this online workshop with a working knowledge of the difference between CLOs and MLOs and how to write them. Faculty will also receive a preliminary version of the new online course design/development faculty workbook that will be part of the new Online Course & Program Review Program beginning in Spring 2023.

Abstract: In this online workshop, properly aligning learning objectives, activities, and assessments will be discussed. We will look at the course design workbook (Part 2).
Take-Away: Faculty will leave this online workshop with a working knowledge about how to successfully select activities that assist students in completing assessments that align with the stated learning objective. Faculty will also receive a preliminary version of the new online course design/development faculty workbook that will be part of the new Online Course & Program Review Program beginning in Spring 2023.

Abstract: The U.S. Department of Education has issued new guidelines for teaching online courses in higher education, as well as how instruction is structured. In this workshop, attendees will review the new guidelines related to "regular" and "substantive" interaction and how to plan "contact" and "non-contact" hours in an online course.

Course Mapping: Mapping Your Online Course

Abstract: Designing a pedagogically sound online course can be a challenge. Connecting course learning outcomes and unit learning outcomes to the proper learning activities and resources, activities, and assessments is important, yet somewhat arduous task. In this presentation, attendees will learn how to map, or outline, their online course. The course map is the blueprint for building your online course.
