Brian Thompson

Brian Thompson began his law enforcement career in 2005 with the Jacksonville Police Department, serving as a patrol officer. In 2007, he advanced to the role of investigator with the Calhoun/Cleburne County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, where he specialized in narcotics and violent crime investigations. In 2014, Brian joined the Oxford Police Department, where his responsibilities spanned patrol operations, forensic investigations, service as a tactical flight officer with the department’s Aviation Support Unit (ASU), and membership in the Emergency Services Unit (ESU).
In 2018, Brian was hired by Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics, where he currently serves as a Forensic Science Specialist, applying his extensive field experience to support forensic investigations and assist in the best practices in evidence processing and analysis.
In addition to his fieldwork, Brian is dedicated to advancing law enforcement education and training. He teaches undergraduate criminal justice courses at Jacksonville State University (JSU) and serves as an adjunct instructor for the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy, where he helps prepare new officers for service in the field.
Brian earned both his B.S. (2008) and M.S. (2023) in Criminal Justice from JSU. He maintains his law enforcement certification through the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) and is a certified firearms instructor through the National Rifle Association (NRA).
With two decades of diverse experience in law enforcement and a commitment to professional development and education, Brian brings a well-rounded perspective to policing, investigation, and instruction.
