Guidance for Generative AI Usage for Jax State Staff and Employees
Jacksonville State University recognizes the increase in AI productivity tools for streamlining workflows. As daily tasks become increasingly complex, AI tools can provide assistance with communications, scheduling, and organizing information. While AI tools can be used for verifying accuracy and accessibility of content, special care should be taken to avoid production of erroneous, inaccurate content or sharing of confidential or protected information. Jax State staff and employees should provide full transparency when using AI during meetings, virtual conference calls, and any time other parties are involved.Philosophies
- AI as a Tool, not a Brain Replacement - While artificial intelligence can be a powerful tool when used appropriately, overdependence and blind trust can lead to dangerous outcomes.
- Verifying Accuracy - Because AI can sometimes produce erroneous, inaccurate content (a.k.a., hallucinations), it is important to verify any generated claims and content.
- Accessibility - As outlined in JSU’s web accessibility policy and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), remember that generated content must meet universal accessibility standards.
- Transparency - It is advisable to disclose significant AI use for important tasks. Employees, staff, and administrators are advised to follow the guidelines for acknowledging and citing AI use found on the Faculty Research section of this website when appropriate.
