Music Prep Program

Through its affiliation with Jacksonville State University's distinguished David L. Walters Music Department, the Preparatory Program adheres to the highest standards of excellence in musical instruction. The program was created in 2006, because of a deep belief in the fundamental value of an arts education. We also recognize that the development and active encouragement of one's musical abilities exerts a positive influence on academic performance, self confidence, and a sense of individuality. The program is designed to be flexible, offering lessons to both youth and adults, in a wide range of abilities. Teachers are selected from the ranks of upperclassman music majors that have been recommended by the JSU Music Department faculty. Members of the faculty serve as artistic role models to the teachers, and are available to advise them in their teaching. The program serves to link members of the community desiring to study music with music majors eager to develop the craft of teaching. Teachers of the program are observed by the coordinator twice per semester. The aim of the JSU Music Preparatory Program is to open doors to a lifetime of musical experience and appreciation.
