Move-In Registration Information

Move-in registration will open July 1, 2020, and close on August 13, 2020.

To ensure a safe move-in process through social distancing, residents will be able to sign up for a check-in time. To register, click your building below to choose a time slot. This move-in process will apply only to those moving in during the regular move-in days, which are Friday, August 14, 2020 - Sunday, August 16, 2020 and Marching Southerners move-in day on August 13.

August 13th Band Move-in Registration - Band members will report to their hall/Pannell Apartment Office/Pointe Clubhouse to check in between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. There is no centralized process for Band.

Move-In Arrival Times

Our main move-in days (August 14-16) will begin each day at 9:00 a.m. The time slots will be set 15 minutes apart to allow everyone to move through our check-in station. We ask that you do not come before your specific time. You will not be allowed to check-in earlier than your assigned time.

Early arrival groups, other than Band (August 13), will not need to sign up for a check-in time. Please see the schedule above for specific check-in times. All early arrival groups prior to August 14-16 will report to their residence hall/Pannell Apartment Office/Pointe Clubhouse for check in.

Check-in Process - August 14-16

Instead of residents checking in at their assigned on-campus community, we will be doing a centralized, drive-thru, check-in process. We will be holding the check-in process in the parking lots across from Brewer Hall. When you arrive at our check-in station, you will follow the signage that will direct you to your residence hall or apartment lane.

The check-in process:

  1. Show your photo ID and confirmation email for your check-in time.
  2. Complete our online form to accept your assignment and sign the roster online.
  3. Receive your key packet and important information regarding residential living.

Arrival and Unloading Belongings

For move-in weekend (August 14-16), after you receive your key packet from our Housing Operations and Residence Life Staff, you may then proceed to your on-campus housing assignment. Before you arrive on campus, we recommend putting labels on your items, with your name and room number, so they do not get mixed in with other residents' items.

For all move-in days, both early and move-in weekend, we will be allowing each resident to bring up to 3 guests with them to help move in. This includes children under the age of 5. We will not be providing volunteers to assist in this year's move-in process.

What should I bring?

Check out our What to Bring checklist to see what items we recommend for on-campus living. Also, be sure to read our Guide to Residence Living to see what is not allowed in on-campus housing.

To reduce the number of contact points this fall, we are only requiring residents to swipe their student ID at the security card reader. Inputting a PIN number will not be required to gain access in areas where card readers are installed.

Safety in the Halls

Along with creating a safe move-in process, we have also taken the following steps to ensure the safety of everyone on move-in day:

  • Hand sanitizer will be provided in the residence halls.
  • All JSU HRL staff will be required to wear face coverings or masks.
  • We will encourage residents and their families to practice proper social distancing.
  • We are encouraging residents and their families to wear face coverings or masks.

If you want to learn more about how JSU is working to keep their students, faculty, and staff safe, check out the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information.

On-campus Visitation Fall 2020 - Spring 2021

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we have enacted new visitation policies for all on-campus living communities.

Visitation will be broken down into the four following stages:

  1. Stage One (Green): Visitation open to non-students and only one visitor
  2. Stage Two (Yellow): Visitation limited to enrolled students and only one visitor
  3. Stage Three (Orange): Visitation limited to residents of the building only
  4. Stage Four (Red):  No visitation

A mask and social distancing are required during visitation. Visitation stages are subject to change at any point by the Office of Housing Operations and Residence Life.

*These policies do not apply during move-in days and will start on the first day of classes.

2020 Move-In FAQS

For all move-in days, both early and move-in weekend, we will be allowing each resident to bring up to 3 guests with them to help move in. We will not be providing volunteers to assist in this year's move-in process.

Yes, we strongly recommend all guests come through the drive-thru line together in the same car so that all temperatures may be taken at the same time. You will be given an armband signifying you have been screened. You will not be allowed to enter the halls without the armband.

You will have as long as you need to move in after you check-in. The check-in times are set 15 minutes apart to maximize our social distancing efforts.

If you are moving in early, you will report directly to your hall to check in. If you are moving into an apartment area (Campus Inn, College, Colonial Arms, Mountain Street Homes/Goodlett Avenue, Pannell Hall, or Penn House Apartments), you will check in at the Pannell Hall Apartment main office, then go to your housing assignment. The Pointe @ JSU early move-in groups will report to The Pointe Clubhouse for check in.

Because we are only checking in certain halls and apartments on specific days, we cannot allow anyone to come on a different day. You may schedule a late check-in time if you are unable to come on your designated day. Late check-in times can be coordinated with your Residence Life Coordinator.

Contact us at and we can assist you with your confirmation email.

You will have the choice for which day you want to move in, but we ask that you only choose one of these days.

You will need a photo ID for the check-in process. If you were not able to get your ID at Gamecock Orientation, the ID Office will be open, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on August 14-16.

Once we assess housing charges to student accounts this week, you will automatically have a dining plan added to your account. You may choose which plan you want by visiting Campus Dining Services’ website,

If you cancel your fall assignment, we cannot carry it over to the spring, nor can we guarantee the same assignment will be available in the spring semester.

Masks/face coverings are required in all JSU buildings and must be worn in all common areas on campus (this includes hallways, lounges, laundry facilities, etc.) Mask/face coverings are also required outdoors when social distancing is not possible. Residents are expected to wear a mask/face covering throughout the residential facility until they are inside their living space. All masks/face coverings must be worn PROPERLY. Please make sure you have a reusable/washable cloth mask or face covering before you arrive on campus. Masks are also required on all move-in days.

Charges were assessed to student accounts starting on July 27, 2020. If you have just been assigned and are not seeing the charge on your account, please allow up to 48 hours for the charge to show up.

We are still making assignments and receiving cancellations daily. Students who do not claim their assignments during move-in weekend will forfeit their assignments. We will reassign those spaces to students on the waiting list on the morning of Monday, August 17. If you do not want to wait and want to be assured of a housing assignment, we are offering Curtiss and Dixon to upper-class students. Curtiss will house females and Dixon will house males. Upper-class students can be assigned to a private room at a reduced cost of $2000 per semester and meal plans are required.
