Q. Do I need to attend Orientation?
A. All first-year students between the ages of 18-24 are required to attend Gamecock Orientation. Gamecock Orientation will provide all students with the tools necessary to succeed at JSU.
Q. What is GO?
A. GO! stands for Gamecock Orientation. It is a prestigious organization developed for First-year students composed of student leaders and faculty from across campus . The GO! Leaders and Advisors guide new students through orientation and through the extended orientation program to enhance their First-year experience.
Q. Why do I need to come to Orientation?
A. Orientation will teach all students the academic advisement process as well as introduce each student to all services available on campus.
Q. How do I register for Gamecock Orientation?
A. All accepted students may make a reservation for orientation, through their MyJSU account. Students' login information is provided on the acceptance letter. To retrieve your username and password you can visit the Initial Credentials page. Once you have logged in and are on the 'Home' tab, look under the 'Featured Links' section for Gamecock Orientation.
Q. How much does Orientation cost?
A. Every new student pays a one-time fee of $75.00.
Q. Do Transfer Students need to attend Orientation?
A. Transfer students who have earned more than 24 hours are not required to attend Gamecock Orientation. Jacksonville State University provides an orientation session for those students who wish to attend Gamecock Orientation. Transfer student may attend a regular orientation session for First-year students or view the online orientation overview @ http://orientation.whereyouaregoing.com. Transfer students should contact the department of their major for advisement and registration.
Q. When will I receive my Orientation Confirmation?
A. After you register and submit payment for Gamecock Orientation you will receive your Gamecock Orientation Confirmation through your Gamecock Enterprise Messaging (GEM) account.
Q. Can my parents or guardians attend with me?
A. Parents and family members are important resources for our new students. We have designed our Parent Orientation as a separate session from the Student Orientation , conveniently held on the day of each Freshman Orientation session. This event is designed for new student's parents, or family members. Walking is a central component of the GO! experience.
Parents are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes due to warm temperatures and movement among buildings on campus. This is a full-day program. Please plan to spend the entire day on campus to receive the full benefit of this program.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Dress for orientation is casual. Wear comfortable shoes for walking around campus. Check the weather and plan accordingly. You will be outside and moving from building to building. Bring an umbrella if there is a chance of rain.
Q. Where and When Do I Check-In?
A. Please plan to arrive on campus, park and check-in at the Leone Cole Auditorium at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the program. Specific details will be available in you confirmation e-mail.
Q. Where is the Orientation Office located?
A. We are located in the Theron Montgomery Building in room 402. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Q. Where do I park for Orientation?
A. Please refer to your GO! Confirmation for directions and follow the signs when entering campus.
