Bachelor of Arts in Film

Our program provides ample opportunity for you to gain hands-on production experience while delving deeply in to the art, history, and theory of Film.  The major will not only help you develop strong critical thinking and communication skills, but you will also gain experience developing a creative idea from inception to final product, which will enhance your project management skills.

Interdisciplinary courses

Film major coursework provides you with a depth of learning from multiple perspectives.  Along with classes taught by professional Film faculty, you will learn photography from Art faculty, theory and history from English faculty and allied crafts areas, such as scenery and wardrobe from Theatre faculty.  This approach gives you a full perspective of all areas of film to provide multiple paths of entry in the film industry.

Facilities

Production courses are taught in Longleaf Studios, with opportunity to work with professional lighting, camera and grip equipment. With a 6000 square foot soundstage and 20’ tall green screen there are many opportunities to learn a variety of film production techniques through hands on training.

Other opportunities

Our internship requirements and study away opportunities provide you the chance to broaden your education beyond campus.  The department produces one fully supported film a year. Offering you the chance to try different roles on a film set. Film students also work with Performance majors to create many student films through the year.
