Jacksonville State and Central Alabama Community College Form Extended Partnership

New agreement provides CACC students with additional opportunities to continue their education at Jax State 

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Jacksonville State University and Central Alabama Community College have entered into a new Memorandum of Understanding designed to expand educational opportunities for CACC students through greater transfer opportunities and scholarship support.

Jax State President Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr., and CACC President Jeff Lynn signed the agreement Tuesday morning during a ceremony on the Jax State campus.

The agreement establishes a broad framework for the two institutions to work together to develop transfer opportunities across academic programs, while prioritizing the transfer of academic credits and simplifying the enrollment process for CACC students who choose to continue their education at Jax State. The institutions will also explore opportunities to develop more specific agreements around individual academic programs.

The partnership adds to opportunities for community college students to take advantage of established pathways to Jax State. These agreements provide students in specific programs at partner institutions with a clear route to transfer credits toward completing a bachelor’s degree at Jax State.

CACC students will also be eligible for Jax State’s Presidential Transfer Leadership Scholarship. Established in Fall 2025, the competitive scholarship provides full tuition to one outstanding transfer student from each of Jax State’s Alabama Community College System partners. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year, for up to four semesters total.

For Dr. Killingsworth, the partnership also carries a personal connection. He began his own college education at Central Alabama Community College while working full time.

“This partnership is especially meaningful to me because Central Alabama is where I started,” Dr. Killingsworth said. “Our goal is to make sure CACC students know there is a path forward at Jax State, no matter where they are in their academic journey. We want to help make that transition as seamless as possible and provide opportunities for students to continue their education and achieve their goals.”

Dr. Killingsworth said the broader agreement will allow the two institutions to identify additional areas for collaboration and respond to the changing needs of students.

“This agreement gives us the opportunity to look at what makes sense for students and work together to build those connections,” he said. “As new opportunities emerge, we want to be a partner that helps CACC students take that next step in their academic journey.”

Lynn said the partnership will give CACC students additional options as they consider the next steps in their education.

“We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Jacksonville State University. This agreement is a major step forward in providing CACC students with more opportunities and greater flexibility as they pursue their educational and career goals,” Lynn said. “By creating a smoother transition to JSU, we’re helping our students continue their education with confidence and setting them up for long-term success.”

During Tuesday’s ceremony, Lynn discussed the potential for the institutions to build on the agreement by identifying individual academic areas where greater collaboration could benefit students. Nursing and education were among the areas discussed as having potential for future collaboration, along with opportunities connected to emerging programs and workforce needs.

Jax State and CACC will continue working together to identify areas for collaboration and develop academic pathways that provide CACC students with clear routes to completing a bachelor’s degree at Jax State.
