Jax State PRSSA Chapter Recognized for Excellence for Second Straight Year
09/20/2024
The Jax State Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter is celebrating a second-straight year of excellence after being recognized as a Star Chapter by PRSSA national. This year, Jax State is one of only 39 chapters among the 371 active PRSSA chapters in the country to carry the Star Chapter award. Star Chapter status is conferred to student chapters that excel in promoting the values of PRSSA through programming, support for student members, engagement with the national association, and service to the discipline and community.
The recognition comes on the heels of some very strong recognition for the chapter at the state and national level by PRSSA and PRSA Alabama. Past honors for the JAX State PRSSA at the state level include the Chapter Development Awards (2022; 2024), a University Service Award (2024), and the Outstanding Chapter Award (2024) from Alabama PRSA. National awards include PRSSA’s Pacesetter Award (2023 – Honorable Mention) and the Dr. Frederick Teahan National Chapter Award for Chapter Development (2023).
Dr. Chris McCollough, Professor of Public Relations and Advertising and The Ayers Family Endowed Chair of Journalism and Mass Communication at Jax State, said of the chapter, “Our students, under the leadership of Dr. Breann Murphy, have made PRSSA an active, vibrant component of the student experience in the Department of Communication. In a few short years, they are maintaining a standard of excellence here and nationally other student organizations aspire to.”
In addition to the Star Chapter Recognition, Jax State PRSSA is in the running for additional national awards later this fall at PRSSA National, which will be announced in late October. Jax State PRSSA is a student organization focused on the professional development of students, regardless of major, who are interested in public relations and strategic communication.
