University to Offer Free Course, "Disconnect for Well-being"

For the fourth year, JSU is offering a free course to current, former and prospective students focused on current events. 

Established in 2020, the university’s Try It program offers a specific, pre-determined course for free in a topic that is relatable to a large portion of the population. It's intended to give potential students a taste of college, but is open to current and former students as well. 

This year's course, “Disconnect for Well-being," will provide students with the skills and mechanisms to help them with daily stressors. In return, they will learn habits to keep their mental, physical and spiritual health at its best.

“We all know that the world we live in is stressful and, for most, we find it difficult to find time to disconnect or reset," said Dr. Tracey Matthews, dean of the College of Health Professions and Wellness. “During this course, you will learn and apply ways in which you can give yourself the opportunity to disconnect for your well-being. We will provide you with resources that can help you disconnect in areas of writing, music, physical activity and connecting with nature.”

The three-credit undergraduate course is comprised of 12 self-paced modules, taught by faculty across a variety of disciplines, and is graded as Pass/No Credit. In addition to waiving tuition and fees, the course is also free of textbook charges. The fall semester starts August 17. Learn how to sign up on the Try It website.
