Tim Matson serves as the CNC Machining Specialist for Jacksonville State University’s Center for Manufacturing Support (CMS), where he manages, programs, and operates advanced CNC mills and lathes to support both university projects and regional industry partners.
Tim brings over four decades of hands-on experience in precision machining, programming, and production supervision. His career began in 1977 with FMC Corporation in Anniston, Alabama, where he advanced through roles as a CNC machinist and supervisor. He later held leadership and programming positions at Sentinel Consumer Products and Dixie Tool & Die, overseeing manufacturing teams and training new machinists in modern CNC methods.
Before joining JSU in 2023, Tim spent more than twenty years as a machine shop supervisor and CNC programmer, where he specialized in tooling design, process optimization, and production quality improvement.
Tim is a graduate of Walter Wellborn High School and has completed extensive professional training, including CNC Programming, Esprit CAM Software, SPC (Statistical Process Control), and Supervisory Management. His decades of practical knowledge and leadership make him a cornerstone of the CMS’s machining operations, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world manufacturing practice.
