Statement on AI at Jacksonville State University
Jacksonville State University’s mission, as a learning-centered community, is to provide distinctive educational, cultural and societal experiences to prepare students to be competent, ethical professionals and engaged, responsible, global citizens.
Today, a true learning-centered community cannot exist without the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy. This emerging technology challenges everyone within the community to reflect on current teaching and learning practices and how these should evolve alongside AI technology.
As educators, we understand the importance of AI literacy in today’s workforce and that, to prepare our students, it is our responsibility to teach both AI’s capabilities as well as its limitations, its practical applications as well as its responsible use.
Our role in students’ lives remains unchanged. We strive always to encourage independent thought and academic growth, while seeking balance between the latest technologies and what it means to be human in the modern world.
As researchers, we also acknowledge the impact of AI on our varied disciplines and our responsibility as scholars to learn, acknowledge, and ethically adapt our scholarship.
