Jax State Give a Gown Initiative

Graduation is more than a ceremony — it’s a milestone that represents perseverance, achievement, and the promise of what’s next. At Jacksonville State University, we believe every student deserves to cross the stage with pride.

The Jax State Give a Gown Initiative was created by Auxiliary & Business Services (in partnership with The Gamecock Market) to ensure that financial hardship never stands in the way of participating in commencement. This program provides graduating students who cannot afford the cost of regalia with access to a cap and gown at no cost. Please note that caps & gowns will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.

Why It Matters

The cost of graduation regalia can be an unexpected burden for some students. The Give a Gown Initiative removes that barrier so that every Gamecock can fully celebrate their accomplishment surrounded by family, friends, and the Jax State community.

No student should have to miss this once-in-a-lifetime moment due to financial constraints.

How It Works

  • Students may confidentially request assistance using the request form located on this page.
  • Approved participants will receive a cap and gown for use during commencement.
  • Students who are lent a cap & gown must return the regalia back to the Gamecock Market within 5 business days of borrowing.
  • All requests are handled with care and discretion.

How to Apply

Graduating students who need assistance should complete the Give a Gown request form by the posted deadline for their commencement term. A brief statement of need may be required.

How to Support the Initiative

The Give a Gown Initiative is made possible through the generosity of donors and supporters. You can help by:

  • Donating clean & gently used caps, gowns, hoods, cords, and any other regalia.
  • Making a financial donation.

Your gift ensures that every student can celebrate their success without financial stress.

If you are an alumnus of Jax State who has graduated from 2022 – present and would like to donate your former graduation regalia, you may bring your donations to the Gamecock Market which is located on the ground floor of Sparkman Hall during normal hours of operation: (MWF 1 - 5 PM OR TTH 11 - 2 PM)

If you are unable to bring your donations to campus, please contact Mr. Jonathan Summerlin: jsummerlin@jsu.edu or Mrs. Charlcie Vann: cvann@jsu.edu to make the proper arrangements and for any other questions regarding the program.
