CHOOSE Act Approval Expands Access to Jax State Dual Enrollment

Approval allows eligible families to use CHOOSE Act funding for Jax State Dual Enrollment.

Jacksonville State University has been approved as an Education Service Provider (ESP) through Alabama's CHOOSE Act, allowing eligible families to use Education Savings Account (ESA) funds to pay for Jax State Dual Enrollment courses.

The approval makes Jax State one of Alabama's authorized Education Service Providers participating in the CHOOSE Act, expanding opportunities for eligible high school students to earn college credit while also completing high school requirements. It also helps make Jax State's Dual Enrollment program more accessible and affordable for families across Alabama.

"Being approved as an Education Service Provider through the CHOOSE Act is an exciting opportunity for Jax State and the students we serve," said Dr. Jessica Wiggins, Vice President for Enrollment Management. "For many families, cost can be a barrier to getting an early start on college. This approval helps remove that barrier by giving eligible students another pathway to earn college credit, challenge themselves academically, and begin building toward their future while they're still in high school."

Through Jax State's Dual Enrollment program, qualified high school students can earn both high school and college credit by taking university courses. The program provides students with an early introduction to college-level coursework and helps them build momentum toward a degree before graduating from high school.

By allowing eligible families to apply CHOOSE Act funding toward Dual Enrollment, Jax State is expanding access to college coursework while helping students reduce the overall cost of earning a college degree.

"Dual Enrollment allows students to experience the expectations of college while they are still supported in their high school environment," said Dr. Andrea Porter, Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies. "Students earn transferable college credit from Jax State, build confidence in their academic abilities, and often enter college with both momentum and a clearer path toward completing their degree."

Governor Kay Ivey recently announced that Education Savings Account funding for the 2026-27 academic year is now available to approved families. According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, more than 34,000 Alabama students were approved to participate in the program this year.
