Grissom Named 2013 Alabama State Star

Ken Grissom, Procurement Counselor with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Jacksonville State University (JSU), has been selected as the 2013 Alabama State Star.

 
Calvin Bennett is July 2013 Employee of the Month

Congratulations to Calvin Bennett, JSU Employee of the Month for July 2013. Mr. Bennett is a Landscaping and Grounds employee. He has been employed at JSU since January 2007.
 
Dr. Christie Shelton is New Dean, JSU College of Nursing

On August 1, Dr. Christie Shelton assumed the reins as Dean, College of Nursing, Jacksonville State University. Her affiliation with the College of Nursing began more than thirteen years ago and during that time Dr. Shelton has performed many roles.
 
Calling All Singers-- The Calhoun County Civic Chorale Begins Rehearsals for Its Fall Season

On Monday, August 26, 2013 the Calhoun County Civic Chorale will begin rehearsals for its Fall concert season. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 7:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. in the Performance Center of Mason Hall and the Jacksonville State University campus. The Chorale will be joining forces with the JSU A Cappella Choir to perform the Christmas portion and other highlight of Handel’s Messiah.
 
Small Business Counseling Offered in August

The Jacksonville State University Small Business Development Center, the SBA and area chambers of commerce will offer one-on-one counseling for prospective and existing small business owners at no charge during the month of August.
 
JSU SGA Student Senators Attend Annual Training at Shocco Springs

The JSU Student Government Association Student Senators recently attended an annual training conference at Shocco Springs Conference Center in Talladega, Ala. The training is part of a mandatory requirement for senators and is held by the Student Government Association.

Four hundred eight degrees were awarded during Jacksonville State University’s Summer 2013 Commencement exercises on Friday, August 2 at JSU Stadium.
 
Rebecca Nash Wins Barnes and Noble Gift Card for ARC Blood Donation

The American Red Cross completed a blood drive at Merrill Building on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. All donors were entered into a drawing to win a $30 Barnes & Noble gift card to be used at our on campus bookstore and Rebecca Nash is the lucky winner.

Seton Hall University Fire Survivors to Speak at JSU on August 26

On the campus of Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, while most of the more than 600 freshman slept, an arson fire was started in the third floor lounge of the six-story freshmen residence hall, Boland Hall. As the fire alarms wailed, most students thought it was just another false fire alarm. No one had any idea that this was a real tragedy in the making.
