The Jacksonville State University Small Business Development Center, the SBA and area chambers of commerce will offer one-on-one counseling for prospective and existing small business owners at no charge during the month of May.

JSU Music Scholarship Honors Decatur Teacher Ramona Love Prater

Ramona Love Prater was a life-long lover and learner of music, passing along the gift of playing piano and singing to generations of Alabama students. Most of her life was spent teaching students in the Decatur and Huntsville areas, and it was one of these former students, Russ Gordon, from Austin High School (1971) that oversaw raising funds for a music scholarship in her memory.

The Higher Education Partnership is calling for all of our members and friends of the public universities to take a stand before Monday, May 20. House Bill 123 is in a position to pass the legislature on Monday. It is a bill that allows the universities to have control over the amount that is charged for distance learning courses.

One of the beauties of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta is the topical humor and the ability to contemporarily update references that W.S. Gilbert wrote into the libretto. With that in mind, don’t be surprised when Ko-Ko, The Lord High Executioner of the town of Titipu, the fictional Japanese setting of “The Mikado”, starts singing that the “cretins from the Music Department” and the advisor to President Meehan are on his list of future executions.
