At least 25 percent of the credit hours required for an undergraduate degree are earned through instruction offered by the institution awarding the degree. (Institutional credits for an undergraduate degree)At least one-third (1/3) of the credit hours required for a graduate or post-baccalaureate degree are earned through instruction offered by the institution awarding the degree. (Institutional credits for graduate degree)Credits “earned through instruction offered by the institution” would not include coursework transferred from other institutions, prior learning assessments, AP or CLEP credits (or credit by examination), or credits earned through a consortium that did not originate from the institution. Unless awarded upon entry into the program, this would include competency-based credits or credit equivalents for competencies or skills exhibited after the institution offered instruction on that skill or competency.Degree programs are based on at least 60 semester credit hours or the equivalent at the associate level; at least 120 semester credit hours or the equivalent at the baccalaureate level; or at least 30 semester credit hours or the equivalent at the post-baccalaureate, graduate, or professional level.

JSU defines Degree, Major, Minor, Program of Instruction and Concentration using the Alabama Administrative Code 300-2-1-.01(d)

Degree:  An award conferred by a college, university or other higher/postsecondary education institution as official recognition for the successful completion of a prescribed program of studies. 

Major: That part of a degree program which consists of a specified group of courses in a particular discipline or field. While practices vary among institutions, a baccalaureate program major usually consists of 28 semester hours or more. 

Minor: That part of a degree program which consists of a specified group of courses in a particular discipline or field usually constituting a minimum of 18 semester hours.

Program of Instruction: An organized set of courses and related activities for which, upon satisfactory completion, some degree, diploma, or certificate is awarded. 

Concentration:  A term that represent a specified group of courses within a program of instruction.

ll accredited public four-year universities are required to accept the course credit as outlined on the transfer guide. The course credit must be applied to the total degree hours required for the major chosen by the student. In addition to applying the transfer credit toward the degree requirements, the four-year university must also graduate the transfer student in the same number of total hours as the native student.

The Alabama Transfers website shows the approved curriculum (ratified template) for the first half (60-64 hours) for specific majors.
