Timeline - 1961 through 1986

1960's

A decade of growth beings. During the 60s, enrollment more than tripled, ending the decade with 5,645 students, and buildings representing a total of $13.179 million were completed.

1966-1967

We ae JSU! On November 22, 1966, Dr. Houston Cole commandeers the megaphone at the football pep rally to deliver the news that the Legislature has passed legislation that Jacksonville State College will now become Jacksonville State University. The team responds to this news by beating Arkansas A&M in its first game as the JSU Gamecocks. (below left)
