The JSU Data Science Jump-Start Project

NSF LogoAbout the NSF S-STEM Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsors scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in recognition that those with credentials in these disciplines can help meet a strategic national need for the economic competitiveness and national security of the United States. Scholars must be domestic low-income students with academic ability who are enrolled in a STEM program that includes a data science component. Demand for data scientists and analysts is increasing rapidly with career options that are exciting and lucrative.

JSU was awarded a $1.5 million grant to support eligible students. Over 40 students have been selected to receive scholarships, attend conferences, and pursue internships under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Supported Students Met the Eligibility Requirements Below

  • Hold US Citizenship or national, refugee, or permanent resident status
  • Have financial need
  • Demonstrate academic ability
  • Declare a STEM major and a data science minor or concentration
