The JSU Data Science Jump-Start Project

NSF LogoAbout the NSF S-STEM Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsors scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in recognition that those with credentials in these disciplines can help meet a strategic national need for the economic competitiveness and national security of the United States. Scholars must be domestic low-income students with academic ability who are enrolled in a STEM program that includes a data science component. Demand for data scientists and analysts is increasing rapidly with career options that are exciting and lucrative.

JSU has been awarded a $1.5 million grant that will be administered over 6 years to provide scholarships to eligible students. In addition, funding is available for students to attend conferences, pursue internships, and travel for STEM industry visits.

The program began in Fall 2022. Eligible students may receive $5,000 per semester for up to 8 semesters if the student is enrolled full-time and maintains good academic standing.
