JSU Boo: Halloween Happenings 2021

While “spirits” were dampened last Halloween, due to the pandemic, the holiday has returned with a vengeance in 2021 - like a villain in a horror flick. From frightful to family friendly, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on campus over Halloween week.

MONDAY

Trick or Treat BucketSpooky Stories for Kids
5-7 p.m., Houston Cole Library, 5th Floor
Children ages 5-7 are invited to hear age-appropriate ghost stories, led by students in Circle K International. Free and open to the public. 

Murder Mystery 
6-9 p.m., Brewer Hall Basement
Can you figure out who the killer is at this mystery-solving event presented by Lambda Alpha Epsilon? Sign up a team of five for $20 by texting @thenarr to 810-10. 

TUESDAY

Fall Festival for Faculty and Staff
4:30-7 p.m., President’s House
Enjoy free food, beer, corn hole, pumpkin painting, a costume contest and more at this faculty and staff mixer.

Halloween Witch HatHalloween Bash
7:30 p.m., Wesley House
Enjoy free food, dancing, and a costume and cosplay contest with cash prizes at this party for students.

Tubaween 
7 p.m., Leone Cole Auditorium 
The beloved annual concert is back, featuring Halloween themed performances by the Encore! Show Choir and Low Brass Ensembles. 

WEDNESDAY

Halloween Writing Contest Deadline 
Students have until 12 p.m. to submit poems and short stories for the JSU Halloween Writing Contest sponsored by the Writers’ Club. Poems should be no more than 50 lines and short stories no longer than 2,000 words, double-spaced. Send submissions to mrhoades@stu.jsu.edu. 

Trunk or Treat Extravaganza
6-8 p.m., Logan Hall back parking lot
Students are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes and enjoy free games and candy at this annual event presented by JSU Housing and Residence Life.

Halloween GhostHalloween Movie Night Fundraiser
7 p.m., Kappa Sigma House
Students are invited to watch a spooky double feature. First, at 7 p.m., the Disney classic, “Halloweentown,” will be screened, followed by a scarier film selected by the crowd (it’s between “Sinister” and “Insidious”). Tickets are $3 and popcorn and drinks will be sold.

THURSDAY

Halloween Carnival at the Caf
5-7 p.m., Jack Hopper Dining Hall
Enjoy treats, games and door prizes during the dinner service for a meal swipe or $10. The menu will include Chicken Philly Cheese Steak, Footlong Hotdogs, Mexican Corn, Nachos, Soft Pretzels, Popcorn, Funnel Cakes, Cotton Candy, Sno Cones and more!

Candy Apple Harvest Festival
5:30-7:30 p.m., TMB Auditorium 
Little ghouls and goblins are invited to trick or treat JSU’s student organizations. Each organization will have a table featuring games, candy and prizes at this free event for children in the community. 

The Exorcist
7 p.m., Stone Center
View a free screening of one of the scariest movies of all time - “The Exorcist" - if you dare.

FRIDAY

Boots and BBQ 
4-9 p.m., Jacksonville Square
Enjoy square dancing and barbecue at this fundraiser for the Starkey Hearing Foundation presented by Delta Zeta. Admission is $5 per person. 

SkullDia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
5-7 p.m., International House
The International Student Organization and El Latido have teamed up to celebrate the Mexican holiday tradition that honors the dead. There will be pumpkin carving and trunk-or-treating for kids in the community, followed by a Day of the Dead Party for students. Admission is free. 

Haunted Jacksonville Walking Tour 
9 p.m., Jacksonville City Library 

Learn about city history and paranormal events at this walking tour presented by the city library. Free and open to the public. Signup begins at 8:30 p.m. 

Halloween Block Party with DJ Heavy Cee
8-11 p.m., between Self and Dixon Halls
All JSU students are invited to a block party presented by the NAACP (student ID required). Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Follow @jaxsu_naacp on Instagram for more details and ticket info. 

Candy Corn SATURDAY

Gamecock Football Hosts Central Arkansas
1 p.m., Burgess-Snow Field
Nothing says fall like college football. With only two home games left in regular season, there's not many stadium Saturdays left. Tailgate throughout the morning with fellow fans. The SGA Tailgate, open to students, will start at 10 a.m. on Dillon Field.

SUNDAY

Halloween Cookout
5-7 p.m., TMB Lawn
Elevate Ministries invites the campus and local communities to enjoy a cake walk, face painting, games, candy, music and free food. For more information, email elevateministries2021@gmail.com.
