Just two months after announcing a groundbreaking partnership with the Calhoun County Area Chamber and Visitors Center to provide educational opportunities to Chamber members, JSU has formed a similar agreement with the Gadsden/Etowah County Chamber.

Beginning in Fall 2021, the university will offer a 20 percent corporate tuition scholarship per semester to full-time and part-time workers employed by member organizations of the Gadsden/Etowah County Chamber. Application fees are also waived, providing an additional $35 in savings.

"When I think of this I think of the word 'hope,' especially after last year," Morgan Lavender, chair of the Chamber board, said during a signing ceremony on May 20. "I think there's so much opportunity out there for people realizing their dreams and continuing higher education so we are extremely excited about this."

JSU President Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. said the partnership is the first step in the university's efforts to increase its footprint in the county.

"On behalf of Jacksonville State University, we're excited about this partnership and the opportunity we can provide to Chamber members and their employees here in Etowah County," Dr. Killingsworth said. "Etowah County is still second in our recruiting, so it is very important to the overall health of the institution."

The scholarship cannot be combined with other university-funded scholarships and discounts, but employees are encouraged to meet with their employer to discuss corporate matching programs.
