Andy Green Named Chamber Ambassador of the Year
02/05/2020
The announcement was a surprise, which is why Andy Green almost didn’t attend the Chamber of Commerce luncheon last Thursday where he was named Ambassador of the Year.
Instead, he planned to go to a Youth Leadership of Calhoun County program. Only a last-minute call from JSU Acting President Dr. Don Killingsworth changed his direction.
“I honestly had no idea what was happening,” said Green, JSU’s Director of Continuing Education and Outreach.
It remained a mystery until he arrived. With no seats available, Green stepped out into the hall, where he planned to wait until after lunch before sneaking in for the program. That’s when he saw his wife, who was holding their baby, and his son.
“That’s when I knew something was going on,” he said, laughing. “It was all very well planned.”
Green was named Ambassador of the Year by the Calhoun County Area Chamber and Visitors Center.
Ambassadors, among whom Green served for 3 years, promote chamber membership and services while fostering member relationships.
“The Ambassador program consists of enthusiastic volunteers from the Chamber membership who donate their time to help build member commitment and raise community awareness of Chamber activities and benefits,” according to the chamber web site.
Being named Ambassador of the Year was an honor for Green given what it represents.
“I’m truly humbled...to be able to represent JSU at ribbon cuttings, and to hear the needs of the community and what we can do to best meet those needs,” he said., It’s an honor to represent the entire university and all its students. It brings me a great amount of joy to know that JSU is being recognized for its work more so than me as an individual.”
