The Calhoun County Civic Chorale Opens New Season on January 9
01/03/2017
On January 9, the Calhoun County Civic Chorale will begin rehearsals for its spring season at 7:15 p.m. in the Mason Hall Performance Center at Jacksonville State University. This spring the Chorale will be joining JSU A Cappella Choir to perform Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass” along with Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Serenade to Music.”
This first rehearsal is a “New Member Open House,” where interested singers may come and experience a rehearsal without further obligation. Chorale members are singers who have voices that can blend well with others, are able to learn their individual vocal part from written music, and enjoy singing classical choral masterworks. Dues for Chorale members are $35 plus the cost of the music. A limited number of scores will be available for purchase at the first rehearsal.
The concert will be on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Anniston. This will be a particularly special performance because the choirs will be accompanied by an orchestra of professional string players and JSU music students.
The Chorale will not meet on Monday, January 16 due to the closing of JSU for Martin Luther King day. Regular rehearsals will resume on Monday, January 23.
The Chorale is one of six choral ensembles sponsored by the JSU David L. Walters Department of Music. It is under the direction of Dr. Patricia Corbin, JSU Director of Choral Activities, and accompanied by Dr. Lornalee Curtis. The Chorale is composed of members of the community, JSU students and faculty. The Chorale meets Monday evenings following the JSU calendar.
