A Cappella Choir and Brass Choir to Present Winter Concert on Nov. 13

11/03/2016

On Sunday, November 13, 2017, the Jacksonville State University A Cappella Choir and Brass Choir will present their winter concert at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Anniston, Ala., at 3:00 p.m. The ensembles will present music individually and then join forces to perform John Rutter’s “Gloria.”

The A Cappella Choir is under the direction of JSU Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Patricia Corbin, accompanied by Mr. Christopher Henley, organist at Anniston’s First United Methodist Church. A Cappella Choir is one of five choral ensembles sponsored by the David Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University. The Brass Choir is under the direction of Dr. Casey Thomas, JSU adjunct instructor and music alumni.

“This concert is a very exciting collaboration,” said Corbin. “In many ways, Dr. Thomas and I have come full circle. Years ago as a student at JSU, he was also the director of the Brass Choir, and we did a joint concert at St. Michaels. I remember how impressed I and the other music faculty in the audience were with how well he handled the Brass Choir as a student director. It is great to see him return as a faculty member and to have an opportunity to work with him again. The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is a fabulous performance space for brass players.”

The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is located at 1000 West 18th Street in Anniston. This concert is free and open to the public; however, the performers are having a food drive. Audience members are asked to bring in a non-perishable food donation to benefit the St. Michael’s Food Ministry.
