JSU Faculty, Staff, Alumni Encourage Future College Students Through Lecture Series

09/16/2015

Entrepreneur and motivational speaker Tayner Satcher will address students at Anniston High School on Thursday, Sept. 17, as part of an ongoing lecture series designed to encourage students to pursue higher education.

The Anniston High Lecture Series, coordinated by JSU history instructor Antoinette Hudson and approved through the AHS principal’s office and the Anniston School Superintendent’s office, began in June 2015 when a team of JSU faculty and students spoke to a group of students. Participating JSU faculty and staff included Hudson, Linda Shelton of JSU Counseling Services, JSU English instructor Valerie Rimpsey and JSU librarian Charlcie Vann. The program grew from general American history presentations to enlightening discussions about what the students can expect if they choose to attend college, presented by guest speakers from all walks who are respected and successful in their careers.

Since the program’s inception more speakers with JSU ties have committed to participate. Upcoming lectures are:

  • September 17- Tayner Satcher, Entrepreneur
  • September 24- JSU alumna Dottie Rimpsey, talk show host for TV24 and adjunct professor, JSU Department of Communication
  • October 29- Valarie Rimpsey, JSU alumna and English Instructor, JSU
  • November 19- JSU alumni Justin Wright, counselor, and Jason Wright, artist, teacher and actor
  • December 1- Dr. John Beehler, JSU President
  • December 8- Dr. Gregory Robinson, University of Georgia

Hudson lectures most Thursdays on various subjects that have been requested by the Anniston History Department.
