Faculty Applicants Sought for 2015 Japan Studies Institute

03/04/2015

The deadline has been extended until March 30, 2015 for the 2015 Japan Studies Institute (JSI) Program, which will be June 8-21 at San Diego State University (SDSU).

This unique offer is for potential faculty participants who are interested in an enriching professional development opportunity leading to internationalization of the curriculum and the campus.

The Japan Studies Institute (JSI), a two week residential program held on the San Diego State University campus, offers an opportunity for AASCU faculty from any discipline to learn from scholars, business leaders, artists and journalists about Japanese civilization, history, language, business, and education. The Institute encourages participants to develop strategies for incorporating Japanese studies into courses on their campuses. The Institute involves two weeks of intensive seminars, lectures, readings, films, and cultural activities.

JSI Fellowships cover most of the costs of the Institute for each participant, including up to $ 700 in transportation, two weeks of housing on the SDSU campus, all Institute program and personnel costs, and a $ 500 stipend for food, a combined value of almost $ 4,000. Participants from AASCU campuses only pay a registration fee of $695, non-AASCU members pay $895.

The Japan Studies Institute provides faculty members from many different disciplines a living-learning program about a critically important country in Asia.
