Gloria Horton Receives Advancement of Alabama Literacy Award at Gulf Coast Conference

Gloria Horton, a longtime instructor in Jacksonville State University's English Department, was presented with the Advancement of Alabama Literacy Award at the Gulf Coast Conference on the Teaching of Writing held in Destin, Florida, June 30-July 2. The award recognizes lifetime commitment to furthering literacy in Alabama, especially through writing. Ms. Horton has been teaching English for almost 50 years, beginning her career in 1964. She will be retiring from Jacksonville State University on September 1, 2014, but will continue to direct the Jacksonville State University Writing Project.
