Jacksonville State University Will Recognize Outstanding Alumni at Homecoming on October 12

The Jacksonville State University Alumni Association announces the 2013 Alumni Award recipients.  These five outstanding members of the JSU family will be recognized during halftime at the JSU Homecoming game on Saturday, October 12, 2012.

Alumna of the Year
Ms. Emily Sides Bonds ’87

emilyMs. Bonds earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science from Jacksonville State University in 1987 and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1990. Ms. Bonds is a partner with Jones Walker LLP, one of the largest 150 law firms in the United States with more than 375 attorneys located in ten states and the District of Columbia. Ms. Bonds' practice focuses on the areas of litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Throughout her career, Ms. Bonds has been honored by several publications. In 2013, Ms. Bonds was listed in Alabama Super Lawyers in numerous areas including Professional Liability Defense, Civil Litigation Defense, and Personal Injury Defense. She was also recognized by Alabama Super Lawyers as one of the Top 25 female lawyers in the State of Alabama. Ms. Bonds has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® 2013, in the areas of Insurance Law, Commercial Litigation, Banking & Finance Litigation, and Municipal Litigation. In 2012, Ms. Bonds was named one of Birmingham Magazine’s “Top Attorneys” in the area of Insurance Defense. She was named "Lawyer of the Year" by the Birmingham Legal Secretaries Association in 2007 and in 2004 was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by the Birmingham Business Journal. Ms. Bonds is a past president of the JSU National Alumni Association. While at JSU she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta, where she served as Treasurer, and a JSU Ballerina. She and her husband, Bryan, JSU class of 1987, reside in Mountain Brook, Alabama, and have a 19 year old son, Miller, and a 16 year old daughter, Anne Marie.


Alumnus of the Year
Mr. Greg Harley ’88

harleyMr. Harley earned his Bachelor of Science in finance from Jacksonville State University in 1988. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1992. Mr. Harley is a partner with Burr Forman LLP and is co-chair of the firm’s commercial litigation section.  His work concentrates on business litigation, class action defense and employment matters. While his practice is centered in Georgia and Alabama, Mr. Harley has represented clients in matters across the United States and frequently speaks on litigation related topics to other members of the bar. He has been recognized as one of the Georgia Super Lawyers, Business Litigation for 2011-2013. In 2010, the JSU Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter at JSU presented him with the Outstanding Alumnus Award. Mr. Harley is a past president of the JSU Foundation, Inc. and an active member of the Gamecock Club. He also teaches youth Sunday school classes at Northside United Methodist Church. While at JSU, he was vice-president of the student body, a four-year member of the tennis team and an active member of Kappa Alpha Order. He and his wife, Manda, JSU Class of 2001, reside in Atlanta, Ga. with their seven-year-old daughter, Kate.


Young Alum of the Year
Mr. Blake Arthur '07

Mr. Arthur earned his Bachelor of Science in recreation administration from Jacksonville State University in 2007. He immediately went to work for Management Recruiters of Cartersville in Cartersville, Ga. as a project coordinator and account executive specializing in the senior housing industry. In April 2011, he became a field based corporate recruiter for Golden Living in Plano, Tex. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to his current position as a leadership management recruiter for the Golden Living Centers. Mr. Arthur directs the recruitment efforts for all facility based leadership positions in eight states. He has also served as the owner/operator of the DJ services company, Delta Entertainment, since 2003. While at JSU, Mr. Arthur was an officer of the Delta Chi Fraternity, serving as a past president, and a JSU Ambassador. He has continued his involvement with the fraternity by serving on the alumni board of trustees as well as serving as a national volunteer vice regent, which oversees chapter operations in Alabama and Mississippi. Mr. Arthur currently serves on the JSU Alumni Association Board as well as his local Etowah Valley Humane Society Board. He and his wife, Jill, JSU Class of 2006, reside in Cartersville, Ga. with their five-year-old daughter, Eva Kate.


Military Alumnus of the Year
Brigadier General Curt A. Rauhut '84

Brigadier General Curt Rauhut was commissioned on active duty as a second lieutenant in the Finance Corps in 1984 at Jacksonville State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and military science. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He is currently the director for resource management, Installation Management Command at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. His primary duty includes managing an approximately $11B annual budget to run and sustain our Army installations.  General Rauhut has served in several key command and staff positions during his career. He has also received numerous military awards to include the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Scuba Diver Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge. General Rauhut is an alumnus of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity at JSU where he served as the chapter's treasurer in 1982 and president in 1983. General Rauhut is married to the former Julie Urias from Las Vegas, Nevada and a graduate of the University of La Verne in California. They have a fifteen-year-old son named Chase and the family resides in San Antonio, TX.


Outstanding Faculty/Staff Member of the Year
Mr. Andy Green '05/'08

harleyMr. Green earned his Bachelor of Science in geography with a minor in marketing from Jacksonville State University in 2005.  Upon graduation, he began work in the JSU Admissions Office as an admissions counselor traveling across the state visiting high schools to attract students to JSU.  Three years later in 2008, he completed his Master of Public Administration with a concentration in spatial analysis management from JSU.  In 2009, Mr. Green moved to the position of academic advisement director where he advised undecided majors.  In 2010, he returned to the Admissions Office to assume the helm as director of enrollment management.  Mr. Green has continued the campus involvement he had as a student by lending his time and talents to the Miss JSU pageant, instructing a First-Year Experience course for freshmen, and serving on various university committees.  Currently, Mr. Green is the vice-president of the Alabama Banner User's Group and immediate past president of the Alabama Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.  He is married to the former Brandie Pollard ('07/'08/'12) and has one son, Jackson Andrew Green.  The Greens are members at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and reside in White Plains, Alabama.

Led by Chapter President Mrs. Adrianne Curvin '96, there are approximately 8,700 alumni residing in the Calhoun County area.
