Highlights from the July 23 JSU Board of Trustees Meeting

The Jacksonville State University Board of Trustees met on Monday, July 23 on the eleventh floor of the Houston Cole Library.
Attending their first quarterly meeting were new trustees Clarence William Daugette III, State Sen. Vivian Davis Figures and Gale Saxon Main.
After introduction of the new trustees and approval of the minutes from the April 16, 2012 quarterly meeting, the board recognized new emeriti board members and awarded an honorary doctorate of letters.

Chairman Jim Bennett announced the new committee assignments before hearing reports and recommendations from the Academic Affairs, Athletic and Building and Finance Committees.
Highlights from the meeting included:
- Adoption of the Interim Operations Budget for October 1, 2012-September 30, 2013;
- Approval to decrease JSU Baccalaureate degree requirements from 52 hours to 36 hours for 300-400 level courses;
- A presentation about the recent study tour to China by Elite Honors Students, Dr. Steven Whitton and Mrs. Gena Christopher; and
- Recognition of Dr. Bill Carr, who is retiring from his position as Dean of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education.
