Celebrate Earth Day at the Canyon!


The JSU Field Schools, Little River Canyon National Preserve and DeSoto State Park will host a day filled with fun and educational programs on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.


Fly Fishing for Beginners

Join Conservation Coordinator and master outdoorsman B.J. Johnson for this workshop. You will learn the basics to get started on your own fly fishing adventures! Equipment supplied or you may bring your own. This workshop is from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Little River Canyon Center in Fort Payne. Build Your Own Bluebird House

Bluebirds are social, mosquito-eating feathered friends. Learn to attract them to your yard or garden. Canyon Center volunteer Mickey Luck will teach participants how to build their very own bluebird house at this workshop, which takes place at the Little River Canyon Center in Fort Payne. Families are encouraged to work together in this hands-on workshop! Takes place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and the price is $15 per bird house. Pre-registration is required by April 16, 2012. Junior Ranger Day

DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve have partnered to present Junior Ranger Day.

From 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., Rangers will be at DeSoto State Park’s Nature Center to help children with their handbook requirements, as well as a short hike centered towards children along the Azalea Cascade Boardwalk Trail.

From 2 - 3 p.m., Rangers will be on hand at Little River Falls in Little River Canyon for a program and short hike centered towards children. Hikers are encouraged to bring water and snacks, and wear appropriate footwear on the trail
