Growing Up WILD for Preschool Children: Un-natural Trail Hike

Join JSU Field Schools' Renee Morrison and volunteers every fourth Saturday of the month for fun nature and art programs for preschool age children.

River Rhythms Family Fun Programs: Un-natural Trail Hike (Advanced)

Join JSU Field Schools' Renee Morrison and volunteers  every fourth Saturday of the month for fun nature programs including hikes, crafts, games, nature talks, activities and more.

Early Spring Frog Pond Adventure

Experience “love” from a frog’s point of view! Join the one-and-only, “Dr. Frog” George Cline, for an unforgettable evening of romance and songs from the first amphibian voices of the season. Learn to identify frog songs and get a hands-on experience with these slippery creatures. Participate in Frog Watch USA. Subject to water level/drought conditions.

Week Day Walkabout: Waterfall Tour & Easy Hike

Join Joan Alexander and others from the Anniston Outdoor Association for this unique driving and hiking tour of several beautiful waterfalls located around the Cheaha State Park area.  These are easy to moderate hikes on rocky dirt trails. Dependent upon water level.

Where:   Cheaha State Park    (8:45 am Meet at State Park and ride JSU Shuttle for tour) in Cleburne County, AL
Time:      9:00 am – Noon; JSU Van shuttle for tour

St. Patrick’s Day Paddle: Terrapin Creek

Join Renee Morrison of JSU Field Schools, Chris Raney of the USFS, Don Coley of Terrapin Creek Outdoor Center and Joan Alexander from Anniston Outdoor Association for this adventure on Terrapin Creek. Wild flowers, wild life and beautiful scenery will abound.  Bring drink/snacks/lunch. Not recommended for children under 12 years.

Plants of the Pocket

Join DeSoto State Park botanist, Brittney M. Hughes, and JSU Field Schools Coordinator, Renee Morrison, for this enchanted botany trip to “The Pocket” on Pigeon Mountain. Excellent photo opportunities of unique and beautiful plants. Easy to moderate short hike.
