Jax State's New Faculty Cohort Series

The New Faculty Cohort series is designed to provide meaningful resources and networking opportunities to new faculty members. Cohort meetings provide new faculty with a place to discuss topics relevant to first-year employment experiences in a collaborative, inclusive setting.

  • To facilitate a smooth transition into the role of faculty for all new faculty members
  • To create a welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all new faculty
  • To promote institutional awareness and comprehensive understanding of the institutions mission, values and strategic goals
  • To provide new faculty members with opportunities to enhance their teaching effectiveness through customized training opportunities.
  • To introduce new faculty with various support services available on campus

Event Description: Grab your JCard and head to the Caf to enjoy lunch with your New Faculty Cohort colleagues. We will meet on Wednesday and Thursday to accommodate teaching schedules.

*Faculty are responsible for purchasing their own lunch at this event.

Event Description: Get to know the library and the many ways it can support your teaching and research! This session, designed especially for new faculty (but open to all), will be held from 2:30–4:00 p.m.

  • Presentation (3:00–3:30 p.m.): Learn about essential library services, tools, and resources available to you and your students.
  • Networking (2:30–3:00 & 3:30–4:00): Arrive early or stay late to meet your subject specialist librarians, ask questions, and discover tailored support for your discipline.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the library team and explore how the library can partner with you to enhance student success. Donuts and coffee provided.

NFC: Let’s Taco ‘Bout Grants with the Office of Sponsored Programs

Time: 11:30-12:00 Session A; 1:00-1:30 Session B; Light lunch provided from 12:00-1:00

Location: 208 Self Hall

Event Description: New faculty (and all interested faculty) are invited to a special Lunch & Learn hosted by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).

Two presentation times will be offered—11:30–12:00 and 1:00–1:30—with lunch served from 12:00–1:00.

Come enjoy good food, great company, and a Bingo Bonanza packed with prizes, while learning about the many resources and opportunities OSP provides to support your research and grant activities. Don’t miss out on the chance to connect with colleagues, meet the OSP team, and leave with both goodies and guidance for your next project!

When you register for a workshop, you will receive a calendar invitation at your JSU Outlook email. Calendar invites are sent manually by Brandy Roberts, so please allow up to two business hours for delivery. Once you accept the invitation, the event will appear on your Outlook calendar. If you do not receive or cannot locate the invite, please contact Brandy Roberts at broberts@jsu.edu.

Registration is encouraged for all professional development sessions but is not required to attend. However, pre-registration is required for any session that includes lunch. Faculty are always welcome to attend without registering, but lunch is only provided for those who have pre-registered.

 

While Faculty Commons encourages registration for New Faculty Cohort meetings, it is not a requirement to pre-register to attend meetings, with the exception of the Let’s Taco ‘Bout Grants meeting.
