President's Track: Open Educational Resources (OER): Fall 2023
- To increase access to quality educational materials by removing financial, geographic, and other barriers to education.
- To reduce the cost of education by providing free or low-cost educational resources that can be used to replace expensive textbooks.
- To allow instructors to tailor educational materials to meet the specific needs of their courses and students.
- To encourage the sharing of educational resources among instructors, institutions, and students, fostering a collaborative approach to learning and teaching.
- To promote the development of new and innovative teaching and learning practices by leveraging the flexibility and adaptability of OER.
- To enhance teaching and learning by providing access to a wide range of high-quality educational resources, including multimedia materials, simulations, and interactive tools.
- To promote the long-term sustainability of higher education by reducing the financial burden on students and institutions and supporting the development of a more open and inclusive educational ecosystem.

Date: October 11th, 2023 Location: 323 Angle Hall and via Teams Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm Title: President’s OER Expert Speaker Dr. Kim Godwin Description: Faculty Commons welcomes MTSU’s Dr. Kim Godwin, Instructional Designer and OER Course Design Expert, as she speaks to faculty to share her wealth of knowledge and experiences working with Open Educational Resources (OER). Her areas of research focus on universal design for learning, online teaching and learning, and the promotion of open educational resources (OER) and open access resources (OAR). She has co-authored four Pressbooks and a chapter on OER for the upcoming Handbook of Research in Online Learning due out in the spring of 2024. Dr. Godwin is part of the OER Task Force at MTSU, where she plays an intricate role in helping to create, promote, and educate MTSU faculty on the value of OER in higher education. We are excited to have Dr. Godwin share her expertise with Jax State faculty. |
