Revision to Campus Mask Requirement

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As promised, given the marked decrease in COVID-19 cases on our campus and in the area, the decrease in local hospitalizations, and the state reporting less deaths from COVID-19, Jacksonville State University will begin to ease the face covering requirement. The revised requirement will begin on Monday, October 18, 2021.

The adjusted regulations will require masks to still be worn:
  • When in classrooms and in Houston Cole Library
  • In the RMC/JSU Health Center
  • On campus sanctioned transportation
  • When preparing or serving food
  • In private offices and during meetings between students, faculty, and/or staff, if requested by one of the individuals present
  • Other situations and/or events where necessary. For these instances, advance notice will be given through the Office of the President.
This requirement applies to everyone, regardless of vaccination status, and is designed to keep us safely operating in person and on campus. Masks are still highly recommended in all other indoor spaces.

Our COVID-19 Task Force continues to support the institution with resources and contact tracing efforts. For links to the positive Self Reporting Form, exposure protocols and FAQs, please visit jsu.edu/coronavirus. JSU continuously monitors the conditions on our campus and in our region. Our mitigation measures will continue to be reevaluated accordingly. Should active cases increase to a level of concern, we will adjust requirements as necessary.

Thank you for helping us keep our campus community safe.

Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr.
President
